Inspiration
EduLocation is an iOS app inspired by games like Pokemon Go that encourage users to explore their environment in a fun and interactive way.
What it does
Users can take a picture of something they find particularly interesting at a location and pin it to a map with a marker. They can leave a comment with the picture on what they liked about their experience. Other users will be able to access all pictures tied to a location they are visiting, and are encouraged to explore that area to find the item or place of interest. It's basically a giant scavenger hunt! Once a point of interest is found, the user can upload their own photo of it and earn points. Locations to tag with pictures can range from museums to parks and more!
How we built it
The app was written in Swift. In order to implement the map and other features, we utilized Google Maps SDK and Google Firebase.
Challenges we ran into
The greatest challenge was learning how to use the different and vast features of the APIs we chose to support our app creation process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our greatest accomplishment was gaining a greater understanding of how to use APIs to access a vast range of features more easily and efficiently.
What we learned
We learned that there are many resources at our disposal that allow further exploration and realization of ideas.
What's next for EduLocation
Features we would like to implement:
- a live chat with other users in your vicinity
- an Android version of the app
- a way to classify images taken by users
- a point/badge system
The future of EduLocation would be in the hands of schools and students that want to use it for a more interactive and rewarding way to explore the educational opportunities around them.
