Inspiration

The inspiration to start Eduko came from the need to transform the way children learn English, combining advanced technology with effective and entertaining educational methods. We observed the success of platforms like Duolingo and realized that we could take this idea a step further, focusing on a young audience. We wanted to create an app that not only taught English, but also captured children's imagination through personalized stories and the excitement of play. We strongly believe that learning should be fun and relevant, and Eduko was born out of this desire to get kids excited about the process of learning a new language.

What it does

Eduko is an educational platform that uses AI to help children learn English in an interactive and personalized way. Children select the topic and genre of the stories they want to read, and the platform automatically generates a personalized book and cover. After reading the story, children answer a comprehension question, and by answering correctly, they earn points that they can use to buy different hats. In addition, a streak system motivates daily practice, creating a fun and continuous learning experience through gamification.

How we built it

For the frontend, we used React and Tailwind CSS, while the backend was built with Firebase. We used the OpenAI API, using GPT and DALL-E, to generate the books. The platform is deployed in Vercel, and for the design we used Figma.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was the image generation, since it was the first time we used Dall-e, so with the help of the documentation and ChatGPT we were able to do it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

To have created a platform that generates customized content. All the platforms we had done so far were a simple CRUD with a couple of more or less complex modifications, but Eduko is the first site that generates personalized content based on the interests of the children.

What we learned

We learned how to create a platform tailored specifically for children. During the process we had to change the design because it was very boring and make the page as fun and easy to understand as possible. In the end it is a challenge to make a platform oriented, not to an adult or a young person, but to a child.

What's next for Eduko

The next steps are to improve customization by adding products and categories to the store, iterate the design and functionality by testing the platform with real children, and create a freemium model to help children learn without sacrificing profitability in order to scale.
