Inspiration
EduHome was inspired by a simple problem: homeschooling shouldn’t mean doing everything alone. Families who choose at-home education often have to become teachers, curriculum planners, administrators, and community organizers at the same time. In Quebec, they also need to manage learning projects, progress reports, evaluations, and other requirements. We wanted to create one solution that makes this journey simpler, more affordable, structured, and connected.
What it does
EduHome is an all-in-one homeschooling support platform. Parents can choose a structured learning program, adapt an existing one, or create a personalized plan based on their child’s level, needs, language, preferences, and family budget. EduHome then brings everything together: learning plans, progress tracking, compliance support, educational resources, access to tutors, and opportunities to connect with nearby homeschooling families and community activities
How we built it
We started by researching the challenges homeschooling families face and the requirements of at-home education in Quebec. We then designed EduHome around the complete parent journey rather than creating just another educational app. We built a web prototype that demonstrates the main experience: selecting or creating a program, tracking a child’s progress, managing important requirements and deadlines, finding tutors, and connecting with a local homeschooling community. We also developed a business model designed to keep the service affordable and financially sustainable
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was balancing flexibility with structure. Every family is different, but homeschooling families still need a clear educational framework. Another major challenge was compliance. We had to make sure EduHome supports parents in understanding and organizing Quebec requirements without presenting itself as a government authority or replacing the parent’s legal responsibilities. We also had to think carefully about affordability, child privacy, tutor quality, socialization, and how to build a sustainable business model rather than simply creating a prototype
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud that EduHome addresses several problems through one connected ecosystem instead of solving only one part of homeschooling. Our solution combines personalized learning programs, compliance support, progress tracking, tutoring, and real-world community connections. This directly addresses the fragmentation identified in the challenge, where private schools, online academies, co-ops, learning pods, and weekend schools each solve only part of families’ needs. We are also proud that we went beyond the interface and thought about how EduHome could operate as a real and sustainable service
What we learned
We learned that building a strong solution is not only about technology. A successful education platform also requires understanding parents, regulations, finances, educators, privacy, and community. Most importantly, we learned that the real opportunity is not to replace parents or schools, but to give homeschooling families the infrastructure and support they need to succeed
What's next for EduHome
Our next step is to launch a small pilot with homeschooling families in Quebec, collect feedback, and improve the learning programs and parent experience. From there, we want to expand our network of qualified tutors and educational advisors, build partnerships with community organizations, strengthen our compliance tools, and create more local opportunities for children to learn and socialize together. Long term, EduHome can expand beyond Quebec by adapting its educational and compliance system to different provinces and jurisdictions—something the original challenge specifically encourages
