Inspiration

The inspiration behind creating 'Learn & Climb: Snake Scholars' stemmed from witnessing/experiencing the struggle children often face in maintaining interest and focus during educational activities, particularly in subjects like math. Motivated by a desire to make learning a joyful experience, we envisioned a game that seamlessly blended the excitement of snakes and ladders with valuable educational content. Our aim was to provide a solution that not only captures children's attention but also fosters a love for learning, turning what can be perceived as a challenge into an engaging adventure towards academic success.

What it does

The project functions similarly to a typical snakes and ladders game. The only caveat is that every time a player rolls the dice, they are faced with a mathematical problem to solve. If they answer correctly, they successfully move to the tile. Prior to starting the game, the user can decide the amount of players and the level of difficulty. Level 1 focuses on addition/subtraction, Level 2 introduces multiplication and Level 3 has division problems as well. Players are incentivized to correctly answer these questions in order to reach the final tile (and thus, win the game) as fast as possible.

How we built it

We used pygame library for our user interface whereas our functional back-end game was created solely using python.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into issues with the user interface portion of the project. Lack of prior knowledge of pygame library as well as time management issues meant we were unable to complete a fully functional project prior to the deadline. Too much time was spent becoming familiar with pygame library and as a result, we were left with an insufficient amount of time to code. It was the first time the three of us collaborated on a coding project together and perhaps a lack of previous experience was detrimental to our cause.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have completed a fully functional game in the back-end. We're also proud of the strides we took in terms of our understanding of pygame library and user interface programming as a whole. All things considered, we gave a valiant effort and learned a great deal in the past 24 hours.

What we learned

One of they key skills we learnt was object-oriented design with pygame.

What's next for 'Learn & Climb: Snake Scholars'

Our next phase involves incorporating AI-driven features to introduce a diverse range of questions, extending beyond math to encompass various subjects. By leveraging artificial intelligence, we aim to personalize the learning experience, tailoring questions to individual player strengths and areas that require reinforcement. This dynamic evolution will empower the game to become a comprehensive educational tool, fostering a well-rounded knowledge base while maintaining the engaging and interactive spirit that defines our project. Stay tuned as we continue to innovate and inspire curiosity in young minds!
