Inspiration

Traditional classroom participation often rewards those who are extroverted and quick thinkers. Students who need more time to process, who fear asking the “wrong” question, or who prefer contributing in writing are frequently underrepresented in a live classroom.

At the same time, instructors struggle to see patterns of misunderstanding in real time. Overlapping questions get repeated, while other confusions go unnoticed. We were inspired to build a system that makes questioning safer, more structured, and more equitable. We want it to support multiple learning styles and turn confusion into a shared, visible part of the learning process.

What it does

EVA is an AI-supported classroom questioning platform designed to make participation more accessible and structured. During lecture, students can submit questions anonymously through a live feed projected in the classroom. The system reshapes incomplete thoughts into clear questions and clusters similar submissions in real time, allowing instructors to address shared confusion efficiently without disrupting the flow of class.

After class, EVA provides a dedicated forum for continued discussion. Students can revisit questions, respond to peers, and build on concepts outside of lecture. By connecting real-time questioning with structured follow-up discussion, EVA supports a more continuous and collaborative learning experience.

How we built it

Using Lovable, we designed a site featuring all of the key features that we desired to have within EVA. Considering our educational backgrounds, we used pedagogy that we believed to be useful for future students to use and incorporated the issues we found in our personal experiences to the product.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was forming a team within such a short timeframe. Rather than delaying the project, we decided to quickly adapt, move forward independently, and build the prototype ourselves using Lovable.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created a product with little to no experience prior to this Hackathon. We are happy that we were able to use the concepts we learned in our fellowship meetings in this event and project.

What we learned

Building EVA taught us how many different factors go into creating an effective learning tool. Beyond implementing features, we had to think carefully about accessibility, website interface, layout, and overall user experience. Small stylistic decisions such as spacing, visual hierarchy, and how information appears on the screen significantly affect whether a platform feels intuitive or overwhelming. We also learned how to consider both technical and design elements at the same time. Ensuring the system functioned smoothly while keeping the interface clean and approachable was something we strongly prioritized. Developing EVA helped us understand that strong educational tools depend not just on functionality, but also on thoughtful, user-centered design.

What's next for Education Virtual Assistance (EVA)

EVA was a passion project we created in the DELFAI Fellowship, and we will use the design thinking skills that we fostered in this project in other facets of our educational lives.
