Inspiration
As high school students we have noticed a strong correlation between household income and gpa as well as standardized tests. Only about 10% of students in the US have access to private tutors. Many students need extra help to be successful but can’t get it.
What it does
Our website provides students and parents with important AI generated resources that will help students succeed academically. Specifically, we want to target three categories: learning resources, parental support, and mentorship. Our website gives students the opportunity to be matched with mentors experienced in the student’s field of interest. It also provides learning resources to students in the form of college counseling. Furthermore we’ve included mental health counseling to alleviate stresses at home.
How we built it
We imported APIs into the Django framework to create chatbots and a matchmaking algorithms. We used Ajax to facilitate connection between the web pages and the APIs. We also implemented embeddings for a matchmaking algorithm.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we faced was using embeddings and learning how vectors can represent words. Another challenge faced was making an effective and user-friendly website using web development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to successfully use the APIs to generate responses and integrate it with our data. We are also proud of being able to create a user-friendly website with all the necessary functionalities
What we learned
Over the course of the hackathon we learned how to effectively use embeddings in our program to help us achieve a functioning program that uses AI for matchmaking.
What's next for Education for All
We hope to use geolocation in order to give students more accurate responses according to their location. We also hope to allow public profiles and build a channel for messaging between peers and mentors.
