Inspiration
In Gaya Ji, Bihar, every student buys new books worth ₹5000+ every year, while seniors throw away the same books. I saw my friends struggling to afford notes and lab projects, so I wanted to build a circular economy for education.
What it does
EduCart is an e-commerce app where students can buy, sell and rent used books, handwritten notes, and lab projects. List items in 30 seconds, chat with buyer/seller, and save up to 70% on education cost.
How we built it
App built with Kotlin, Java & Flutter (Dart). Backend with Firebase for Auth and Realtime Database, SQLite for offline cart, and REST APIs. Tools used: Android Studio and Git. Also created Business Strategy and Pitch Deck.
Challenges we ran into
Managing real-time inventory with Firebase, building trust between student users, and designing the app for low-internet areas in Bihar.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a prototype that can reduce education cost by 70%. It combines Tech, Business and Social Impact for 250M+ students in India.
What we learned
Learned Firebase, product management, and how to build a business model for Bharat.
What's next for EduCart
Add rent-a-book subscription, AI price prediction, and launch in 5 districts of Bihar first.
