Inspiration
My inspiration was to create a platform that offers free learning opportunities for students and allow teachers or volunteers to contribute back to the community. Many students come from lower income families that cannot afford to send them to additional enrichment classes. As a result, these students may have a strong desire to learn subjects like coding but lack the means to enroll in such courses. Additionally, our platform provides the flexibility for students to learn either online or in-person, making it more accessible and convenient for them.
What it does
The platform is divided into two applications: one for students and another for teachers/volunteer assistants. In the teacher version, users have the option to become either a teacher or a volunteering assistant. Teachers can create programs or classes, which can be conducted online or offline. After entering the class details, they can specify if they require a volunteer assistant for their lesson. Once the form is completed, a new lesson is added to their list, and they can monitor the number of students joining their class. Volunteer assistants, on the other hand, can join any lesson that requires their assistance. Upon confirming their participation, the lesson is added to their volunteer list.
In the student's application, they have the freedom to join any class that interests them, and the lesson will be added to their lesson list.
How we built it
I build the prototype using Figma.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges faced was the time constraint, initially I wanted to translate this prototype into a working, functioning mobile application but end up sticking to the Figma prototype to better demonstrate and explain the concept of my project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I was proud that I manage to at least come up with a working prototype that can effectively capture almost all aspects of my project idea.
What we learned
Learn how to work within a short amount of time and work independently.
What's next for EduCare
Implement more features such as a reward point system for teachers and volunteers to gain points from the number of hours they teach or help. These points can be used to redeem vouchers or lucky draw opportunities.
Implement a chat system, where students can discuss questions with their fellow friends and teacher in the same class.
Have a proficiency test within the app to make sure that the teachers have certain qualifications to teach students.
