Inspiration

The inspiration behind this project is the fact that all of us needed help and guidance at some point in our lives. This website provides that through helping students find their mentors that match their preferences.

What it does

Students will apply to be matched to a mentor that suits their general interests and location. After this point, they can connect with mentors regularly and get advice. If they need changes in mentors, Educare also allows them to rematch with a new mentor that may be better fitted for them. Our website aims to close the educational and achievement gap that many school systems face due to low funding and lack of resources

How we built it

We programmed this website using HTML and CSS and used Repl.it to do so. In our website, we embedded google forms for the students to find their mentor that matches their interests. Another google form is embedded in the "Mentors" page so that anyone who has a desire to share their knowledge and expertise online or in person can provide that assistance.

Challenges we ran into

Our group didn't have much experience with programming websites especially in a shorter time frame. So, we had to manage learning to program in HTML and CSS at the same time as we program our website. The short amount of time and our inexperience made it difficult to expand the project as much as we would have liked.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of how functional this website is and how the goal of this website achieves something that we would desire in our educational/career journey.

What we learned

Since many of these concepts are new to us, we had to use many online resources and share knowledge with each other in order to learn how to program the website.

What's next for Educare

As of right now, Educare is only in the first stages of development. We will continue to develop it to be more extensive and professional. We will also be developing our mentor matchmaking algorithm, so that students can receive the help that is more suited for them. Also, we will market this program more towards underprivileged youth to close the achievement gap in the educational system set in place.
