Inspiration
The inspiration behind Educade stems from the belief that learning should be both fun and educational. Traditional methods often feel tedious, so we created a platform where play and learning seamlessly blend. In our games, every move requires solving a math, reading, or educational challenge, turning practice into play. Parents can customize the experience by adjusting grade levels, difficulty, and subjects, ensuring each child learns at their own pace. The goal is to make learning an exciting adventure, not a chore.
What it does
Educade is a free web-based arcade where kids play simple games and solve math problems to make progress. They compete against a bot in puzzle-style challenges, earning each move by answering questions. Designed to be engaging and accessible, especially for students in underserved communities, Educade is ad-free, cost-free, and distraction-free. While it currently focuses on math, future updates will allow kids to choose any subject and grade level by simply telling the AI what they want to learn.
How we built it
We built Educade using powerful tools to create an immersive and engaging gaming experience. Cursor managed the game mechanics, user experience, and real-time progress tracking, giving parents the ability to customize grade levels, difficulty, and subjects. ChatGPT played a key role in ideation, helping us brainstorm game concepts and educational question formats. MongoDB securely stores user profiles, game data, and progress, ensuring a personalized, seamless experience for every player. To enhance the atmosphere, we used Sumo to create background music, making the games feel lively and dynamic. Our focus was on delivering an ad-free, fast-feedback system: players solve challenges, receive immediate feedback, and keep playing, making learning both fun and rewarding.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was balancing gameplay with learning. We wanted answering questions to feel rewarding, not like an interruption. It took time to fine-tune this balance. Additionally, working under tight time constraints led to limitations with game logic, such as the Connect 4 bot not playing optimally. Building a fully optimized AI opponent was outside the scope for our hackathon timeline.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of several milestones in Educade’s development. First, we successfully integrated MongoDB for real-time performance and personalized user experiences. We also developed a working demo that showcases customizations and interactive learning challenges. A key achievement was incorporating Gemini AI. Gemini dynamically generates educational questions and serves as an in-game player, offering a competitive challenge that enhances engagement and makes learning feel like an interactive game.
What we learned
We learned that creating an educational experience that feels like play is challenging, but incredibly rewarding. Balancing fun with learning required constant adjustments to keep kids engaged without overwhelming them with too many questions. We discovered the value of iteration—starting simple and refining over time leads to a smoother user experience. Tight deadlines taught us how to prioritize core features and streamline development, focusing on what matters most to users. Finally, we gained hands-on experience with AI software, learning how to integrate and optimize these tools to enhance functionality.
What's next for Educade
Looking ahead, we’re focused on several key developments. First, we plan to optimize the Connect 4 computer player to make it more challenging and dynamic, providing a better experience for users. Additionally, we’ll be reaching out to schools to introduce Educade as a tool for enhancing classroom learning and engaging students in a fun, interactive way. Finally, we’re excited to add new games to our platform, further expanding the educational content and gameplay options for kids to enjoy.
