Inspiration
Millions of students in rural and underserved areas lack access to quality education due to poor internet connectivity, language barriers, and low literacy levels. Many also struggle with disabilities that prevent them from engaging with standard digital content. EduBridge was born out of a desire to bridge this educational gap using inclusive technology, making learning accessible to everyone, everywhere — regardless of internet speed, language, or literacy level.
What it does
EduBridge is an AWS-powered inclusive learning platform that:
Provides low-data or offline video lectures
Translates content into multiple regional languages
Converts text-based materials into audio using text-to-speech
Supports voice-based navigation for users who can't read or type
Core Features:
Text-to-Speech: Powered by AWS Polly
Multilingual Translation: Via AWS Translate
Voice Commands: Handled through AWS Lex
Offline Content Delivery: Using AWS S3 + local sync
Accessible Interface: Designed for low-literacy and visually impaired users
How we built it
Frontend: React.js with Tailwind CSS
Backend: AWS Lambda + API Gateway
Voice Support: AWS Lex + Polly
Translation Engine: AWS Translate
Storage & Delivery: AWS S3
Authentication: AWS Cognito
Deployment: AWS Amplify
Offline Access: IndexedDB for local sync, AWS MediaConvert for video compression
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring translation quality for educational and technical content
Creating a voice interface that works even with regional accents and noise
Optimizing for offline access and ultra-low data usage
Designing an experience that works for illiterate or visually impaired users
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a fully functional inclusive learning platform using AWS services
Made content accessible to non-readers and differently-abled students
Successfully tested in low-internet conditions with positive feedback
Achieved seamless integration between AWS Translate, Polly, Lex, and S3
What we learned
Accessibility and inclusion require thinking beyond just "features" — it's about user empathy
AWS services are incredibly powerful when used in combination for accessibility use cases
Real user testing is critical for refining UX, especially in rural and underserved contexts
What's next for EduBridge
AI-generated notes, summaries, and quizzes
Android app for fully offline usage in rural areas
Integration with Indian Sign Language (ISL)
Partnerships with NGOs, government schools, and educational nonprofits
Support for more regional languages like Bhojpuri, Maithili, Odia, etc.
