Inspiration

Being from a developing country, the rich poor divide is in front of my eyes everyday. The reason of this gap is the difference in education. Until students in rural areas are given high level education, they will never be able to improve their condition. And this creates a vicious cycle. Now that I am learning computers and engineering, I thought I could help these students in every possible way I can. And the first step towards educating the poor children was to educate their teachers!

What it does

  • The app provides tutorials and workshops for teachers that will help them learn recent developments and technologies. This can be filtered by language.
  • It has activities that they can use to teach a certain topic to students in an innovative manner. This is divided in different subjects and can be filtered in standard.
  • It connects the teachers to other educators worldwide.
  • It helps the teachers in developing areas to learn ways and tools for online learning.
  • It offers some help in using the English language.

How I built it

I first brainstormed the idea and the features that the application should have. After finalizing the features I created a prototype of the app. Then I coded the required parts using python and its libraries. I also created a pitch deck simultaneously to include the work I was doing.

Challenges I ran into

I was trying to make a tool that could correct grammar in a given sentence. I tried that for one whole day and then got to know that the python library I need is not compatible with the java version I have. This was a bit disappointing but I did whatever I could.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I tried. It's always a great accomplishment. I utilized my time to make something useful and had a vision of bringing a change somewhere in the world. That vision and my idea makes me happy.

What I learned

A lot! I am new with UI/UX design and it is the first time I did that all by myself. So it was a great learning experience. I am used to using python but I learnt about a new library called pronouncing. Also, one skill that I'll take back from the hackathon is the web development. Workshops in this area were brilliantly organized. I learnt a lot from them and from other workshops/seminars.

What's next for EduALL

May be the creation of the full fledged app that can actually improve the condition of at least some people.
