Inspiration
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we observe the difficulties in communicating with students that have similar interests as us as well as ones that have excelled in courses we are enrolled in. Our goal was to develop an application that allows students to collaborate with current and previous classmates in order to exchange knowledge and insight.
What it does
It displays classes a student is enrolled in, as well as other students that are in that class and if there are other shared mutual classes. The “dropbox” lets students upload any useful resources into a cloud environment for that class so that other classmates can access it. The map feature enables students to locate places on campus where they can meet and study.
How I built it
Google Cloud and Firebase was a major component of this project. It allowed for uploading and storing documents into their respective class “dropboxes”. It also stored profiles of the students so that finding mutual friends became easier. For the map, a Google Maps API from Google cloud services was used to locate potential study areas around the student’s location.
Challenges I ran into
We learnt more about development with Swift and Firebase.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud that we were able to create a Firebase Real-Time Database. We also were able to create viewControllers with interactive buttons and textFields.
What I learned
We learned how to use Firebase and swift a lot more thoroughly.
What's next for Edu-nnect
We hope to reach out to universities and integrate our software with their system so that they can create a safe space to network and collaborate.
