Inspiration
This project is very personal for me. A year ago I had to move from Russia, because of the political situation, which was a challenging experience for me. I was lucky enough to have sufficient knowledge of English to be able to communicate with my peers, however, I still struggled a lot connecting with people. It was hard for me to imagine that out there there were thousands of kids, who were thrown into a foreign country with little knowledge of the language and skills to adapt to this new environment. So, I decided to create a program that would help to connect students across the world to help our peers adjust and learn, together overcoming the obstacles of political conflicts, and providing the necessary support.
What it does
Our project is designed to mainly provide tutoring opportunities for various subjects for students across the world. You can leave an application to either become s teacher or a student on a website. We are also designing study materials that would help students to individually access education, as well as connecting and networking features, like forums, online events, and conferences, while also implementing mentor and career advice systems, combined with internship programs, to help aspiring high schoolers adapt to the working environment.
How we built it
I built this website, using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, using ChatGPT for certain interface solutions. Also, I created the design beforehand in Figma.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest issue was the time limit of the project, however, I believe that I will not stop at the end of this hackathon, but keep working on this project in the future, for it to bring actual results. Moreover, I was working alone, which also caused certain problems, however, I managed to finish a sufficient amount of work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I think the result I managed to achieve during such a short period because I joined the hackathon later, is a very solid accomplishment. I am very proud of the extent, to which I have managed to work through the idea and elaborate it, designing the plan of the project's growth and development.
What we learned
I have learned some aspects of frontend development that I haven't encountered before in my work, although I was trying to keep the website very minimalistic. Moreover, I have learned a lot about the industry, gaining some experience in the educational sphere.
What's next for EDU
The basic website is already designed and built. Right now I am working on creating the separate teacher's and student's pages, writing an elaborated business plan for the project. In the future, I will be also creating additional interfaces, such as interactive activities, building a team that would help with recruiting teachers, and creating study materials. I will be networking to find organizations that would be willing to work with us and promoting our projects to potentially interested individuals.
