Inspiration
Some of us have known teachers to have a hard time finding and using educational technology to promote classroom engagement recently, especially on Zoom. The COVID-19 pandemic really hit schools across the nation, and the style of teaching that has had to adapt to that has made it difficult for schools to perform at their same levels and optimize classroom engagement.
We made our project with this in mind.
What it does
It's a platform that holds an inventory of different edtech tools so teachers and independent learners can collaborate and discuss how best to use different tools for learning and classroom engagement. App users will be able to find a variety of tools in a convenient place and click on tools they find interesting in order to view other users' comments on the tool.
How we built it
Django
Challenges we ran into
Django
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It took a long time and a lot of work, and two of us had come into the project largely unfamiliar with Django, web development, and educational technology at all. But even then, we leveraged our skills and had a good time learning to use and understand new technologies and concepts like data architecture (specifically using Python) and the general concepts behind linking front-end to back-end web development code
What we learned
- Django
- HTML/CSS
- SQLite databasing
- Patience
What's next for EdTechLib
- More features for interactivity and user input
- Submitting new tools
- User submission of comments and ratings
- Lesson planning front-end built into the website
