Inspiration
We have friends and family that have been or are currently in application/internship processes, whether it be a job, internships, medical school, or really anything. We decided we would create an aid for those people.
What it does
We created a google chrome web extension that allows you to toggle a floating, draggable, transparent sticky note anywhere on your browser. It allows you to read any important notes you may have for an interview without being intrusive.
How we built it
We developed this web extension using several files of different types, such as python, javascript, html, and css.
Challenges we ran into
Working around google's restrictions were tough, considering none of us have really had any experience with web development in the past. Since we were not familiar with the languages, we found it rather difficult to work with the syntax alone, let alone create the chrome extension itself.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
In the end, we managed to get the note to work as we intended (formatted as well), we managed to add the feature where we could toggle the note on and off, depending on whether we wanted to currently use it or not. We were also able to create a kind of menu or hub, where we can (in the future) implement some more customizable settings to further enhance the user's experience.
What we learned
Although something may seem completely impossible, there's always a way. We also learned some basic skills of course, such as basic knowledge on how html, css, and javascript files interact with each other.
What's next for Glass Notes
We want to further develop this project beyond this hackathon. We want to eventually be able to stray away from the chrome extension idea (it's quite limiting, at least as far as we know) and move more towards developing our own application so we can have many more options to expand ideas.
