Inspiration
What inspired to make Edo was my upbringing. I grew up in India and later moved to United States and the time that I lived in India inspired me to create Edo as I saw how people around me couldn't ever really get an education. When I moved here, I saw that a lot of people were becoming interested in computer science and other related topics which made me decide to build a website that offers courses around it.
What it does
Edo is a mentor based website which is built by you for people like you. Anyone can sign up and be a mentor if they fulfill our qualifications to teach a course. You can be a 1-on-1 mentor to a person and get paid to teach the course and help them with any problems they have. Edo is a non-profit and all the money that goes to the website and the mentors come from crowdfunding as well as the courses which we try to make at an affordable price.
How we built it
I built this using Replit which allowed me to easily share the website and the code with people. I used HTML and CSS to make the website and I used Google Fonts to find the perfect font for the website and I also used Font Awesome for the stars on the products page. I started by planning out what I wanted this website to do which was to offer courses to people. So, I coded the HTML and built courses which was sorted to featured products and the latest products. Later on in the day, I used CSS to help style the page as well as overall make it look cleaner.
Challenges we ran into
I ran into some troubles with the CSS and making it do what I wanted as sometimes the gradients that I used wouldn't work or there would be a big white gap between pieces of information making the website look terrible.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of just coding this website in the time provided and I'm proud of how it looks especially since I'm a beginner as well as the concept and all the planning that went into it.
What we learned
I learned more about planning and thinking of concepts that were useful to people. I also learned more about CSS and what really makes a website good and memorable so that you would want to return to it.
What's next for Edo - A new type of Education website
Anything really. I will work on this even after the hackathon and try to make it an actual website where we offer courses and you can sign up to get paid to teach it.
