Inspiration
Both of us co-founders are content creators. I’ve covered several organizations and events (including the Pulse-Z journalism platform, UWC International Congress, Gen-E European Congress, and independent creators). Victoria has her own instagram account, where she posts about initiatives she takes part in and adventures she embarks on. We both edit our own content, and both experience the same issue: repeating the same editing process over and over again, struggling to keep consistent, and losing hours editing for every new video… hours that could have been used to record more videos or brainstorm new ideas.
We have both launched startups before, and each is part of an entrepreneurs group in our college (Acceler8 incubator at Bath University, and eTower founder residence at Babson College). Combining our interest in content creation with our entrepreneurial background, we felt equipped and motivated to solve this challenge.
What it does
Editify is an AI video editor designed to help people who want to earn online through content creation but don’t have the time, skills, or resources to edit videos consistently. Users can input previously edited videos, allowing the AI to learn their style, including transitions, sound effects, and visuals, and apply it to future content automatically.
It streamlines the editing process by cutting, refining, and structuring videos, making high-quality content creation more accessible. The goal is to lower the barrier to entry for earning online, giving more people the opportunity to build an income and share their ideas, regardless of their background or location. Because we believe people should go viral for what they say, not for the hours they spent editing it.
How we built it
Initially, we are running an MVP through a hosting platform (fly.io), which we are sending over a few creators (from our 40 users on our waitlist so far) for them to try and give us feedback on. The MVP works using an Anthropic wrapper, and consists of the essential features our platform will offer: chatbox prompting, pattern analysis, and manual rectifications.
David will lead technical development over the next two months. He is a content creator and software developer who previously launched his own video editing platform to add filters and visual effects to his content, so he understands both the technology and the user. He built our proof of concept-MVP and is polishing it into a first version ready for the App Store and Google Play.
Challenges we ran into
Both Victoria and I (the co-founders) are non-technical, so we onboarded two technical leads to help us with the software’s development. One is helping us develop the MVP, and the other is focusing on how we will create our own LLM eventually.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The idea of building Editify actually began at a hackathon… We did not win, but that did not stop us. We kept building, and we haven't stopped since. We came up with Editify mid-july, and have been working hard and moving quickly to make it a reality. So far, we have:
Pitched at a hackathon and to an investor. Talked to customers and mentors (+30 meetings done so far, and attended 2 events meeting content creators) Began building a waitlist (currently +40 users) Built a Lovable prototype, business plan, and now a first version of a working MVP Started posting on social media about the project Took part in the Entrepreneurs First Start program, where we focused fully in advancing the project and receive feedback from mentors and other entrepreneurs in the cohort
What we learned
From our initial user research (combining 6 individual interviews, a focus group with 15 micro-creators, and a survey with 12 respondants), we learned that the main challenge our audience faces is the large amount of time and effort required to produce content that is of high quality and with a unique, differentiated style. When editing their content, these creators spend significant amounts of time selecting footage, trimming, creating hooks, polishing transitions, and adding text, image or sound effects. 62% have not yet used AI video editing tools, mainly because existing ones don’t properly match their editing style nor achieve the quality they expect, sometimes even making it more time consuming to teach the AI tool what they want than to manually edit themselves.
Editify is built around these creators’ needs.
What's next for Editify
Now, we have just launched the app to the App Store free to download, so that it will become accessible to anyone who has a phone and a video idea. In the months following, we will start developing our own LLM with the other technical lead, producing an AI model we have full control over and giving us more freedom on our features and pricing.
We want to become the bridge between creators and their social media accounts; the platform all creators lean on to develop their editing style and post from it, turning content creation into a real side job that does not take hours behind every video.
