Inspiration

Managing deadlines is not just about creating a to-do list. It is about knowing what deserves attention first, making realistic plans, and recovering when a day doesn't go as expected.

EDITH was created around this idea: instead of leaving people overwhelmed by tasks, help them identify their next clear step.

What is EDITH?

EDITH (Your Personal Intelligence System) is an AI-powered productivity assistant designed to bring task management, deadline awareness, scheduling, and recovery planning into one workspace.

The goal is simple: help users turn overwhelming to-do lists into clear, actionable next steps.

Core Features

  • Task Management: Organize tasks, deadlines, priorities, and estimated durations.
  • Schedule Planning: Help users plan their available time around pending work.
  • Deadline Awareness: Highlight tasks that need attention so users can make informed decisions.
  • Recovery Planning: Support replanning when tasks fall behind schedule.
  • AI Assistant: Provide a conversational interface for productivity-related questions and actions.
  • Unified Dashboard: Bring tasks, upcoming deadlines, focus sessions, and productivity information together.

How We Built It

EDITH combines a React-based frontend with a Python FastAPI backend and an SQLite database. The frontend communicates with the backend through API endpoints to manage and retrieve task information.

The project is designed around a practical principle: productivity tools should do more than store tasks. They should help users decide what to do next.

Challenges

One of the main challenges was bringing multiple productivity workflows into a single interface without making the experience overwhelming.

Another challenge was keeping the frontend and backend connected reliably while preserving existing task data. Testing API behavior and improving duplicate-task handling were important parts of making the application more dependable.

What We Learned

Building EDITH reinforced the importance of connecting interface design with real application functionality. A polished dashboard is only one part of the experience; reliable APIs, sensible scheduling, careful data handling, and useful recovery workflows matter just as much.

What's Next

EDITH's direction is to become a more capable personal productivity system that can help users plan realistically, adapt when circumstances change, and focus on the work that matters most.
