Inspiration
We wanted to combine the creativity of alternate history storytelling with the power of AI to make history engaging and interactive. What if a single edit could change the entire world?
What it does
Edit History is a mobile game where players edit real historical events to reshape the future. After making a change, the AI generates a new timeline, revealing events one by one. Players earn points based on how much they diverge from real history, how impactful the change is, and how surprising the results are.
How we built it
We used a mobile-first responsive design in Figma for the UI/UX, and integrated a large language model (Gemini) to simulate alternate timelines. Events are pre-seeded with partial history, and user edits trigger AI-generated outputs, scored and compared to real-world timelines. We used prompt engineering to guide historical plausibility while encouraging creative divergence.
Challenges we ran into
- Tuning the AI to generate believable yet surprising historical outcomes
- Designing a scoring system that feels fair and rewarding
- Balancing educational content with fun gameplay mechanics
- Ensuring mobile performance for dynamic timeline rendering
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created a unique AI-powered gameplay mechanic based on narrative transformation
- Designed a sleek, mobile-friendly UI that compares real and fictional timelines
- Made learning history engaging and interactive for players of all ages
What we learned
We learned how to guide LLMs with narrative consistency, how to build a scoring system around AI creativity, and how powerful story-driven design can be when combined with interactive UX.
What's next for Edit History
We're planning to add:
- Multiplayer timeline battles
- Custom scenario creator
- Deeper fact-learning tools with Wikipedia/AI summaries
- Leaderboards and unlockable rare history packs
We believe Edit History can become a genre-defining blend of education and entertainment.
