Timisoara was the first city in Europe with electric lighting on streets. We want to help it become the first truly Smart City, the IOT capital of the world.

What it does

Our solution is a bluetooth mesh network that spreads across an entire city offering very cheap ($ wise and energy wise) bluetooth based localization but also a bluetooth network infrastructure as a catalyst to IOT solution developers!

We're building an alternative to internet and GPS based on bluetooth alone - our infrastructure will allow the developement of IOT solutions never before possible because of the high costs and power consumption of such solutions.

How we built it

We programmed a mesh of 4 Bluetooth Nano 2 devices which, based on the signal strength of your bluetooth devices, localizes your position and plots you on the venue's map.

Check your surroundings during the demo... our Bluetooth chips will be placed in the central area - probably hanging from the ceiling :)

Challenges we ran into

Centralizing the data from the numerous Bluetooth devices. Refraining ourselves from wasting valuable time on localization algorithm optimization but rather focus on getting the POC ready.

Bluetooth 5 will revolutionize and be the catalyst of IOT.

What's next for EdisonTM

Work together with the Town Hall to get our chips embedded in light bulb socket adapter so we can have our network extend the public lighting network with Bluetooth coverage. Simply put we'll use the electrical network and the public lighting bulbs as the support infrastructure for our bluetooth network. We will also provide our Ble-enabled lightbulb adapters to commercial areas so we can extend our network and localization services indoor. We'll also do an EdisonTM hackathon next year to let Timisoara's devs brainstorm for third party IOT application ideeas.
