Inspiration

Increasing rates of school supplies such as books, stationary etc. Our school seniors generally have extra stationary and old books but it's really hard to find them. Ed-Buddy works like a common platform which smoothens the process. It also helps save environment as it promotes re-use.

What it does

It is a platform where students can find school supplies for free. Apart from that, it also works like a social media platform where students can find other students to study with. For example, say I'm struggling with Biology, then on Ed-Buddy I can post a buddy request and find someone who wants to study biology too, then we can study together. It also helps us find free school supplies such as books, stationery etc. It promotes re-use and helps build a helpful community among the school students. On Ed-Buddy, we can also find other students who are the same major as ours. In a large school, it is very difficult to find other students who are the same majors, but Ed-Buddy makes it super easy.

How we built it

I built it using Flutter and Firebase. It is based on the MVC design pattern. I have neatly refactored the code, built model classes, etc. I have followed clean code practices such as the SRP(Single Responsibility Principal). We have a separate folder called services which has all the firebase code for user authentication as well as for the database (No-sql). I have done all the null checks, and built the project with null-safety on. Before each network call, the app checks if the user is connected to the internet and proceeds accordingly. It displays an appropriate error message whenever an error occurs and provides a really smooth user experience.

Challenges we ran into

Handling a large codebase, optimisation of network calls, creating neat UI, managing time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating an app which will help make a difference. It will help save the environment, build a helpful community of students, and help students with their studies.

What we learned

How to work under pressure, how to tackle different coding problems, and how to manage our time efficiently.

What's next for Ed-Buddy

Getting in contact with my school and incorporating it into the system. Then, get feedback from the students and improve the app, and later expand to other schools.
