Inspiration

Our project was born from a simple anecdote shared when the team met for the first time. Pranavi joked about how they had a printer that had been broken for years in their closet because they did not know how to properly dispose of it. This left our team to do some research. We found out that e-waste represents 2% of America's trash in landfills, but it equals 70% of overall toxic waste. Even worse, only 12.5% of e-waste is currently recycled. We decided to change that with our project: eCycle.

What it does

eCycle is a website-based product that allows people to submit a form about their used electronics. It contains features such as form-type submission for electronic owners, an interactive map that displays the location area of available pickup stops, and an embedded spreadsheet that shows the form submission data, such as the type of electronic, size, weight, and availability for pickup, etc.

How we built it

eCycle was built completely on Qoom, using both HTML and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge we ran into was that all of us had limited coding knowledge, so much of what we accomplished today were concepts we have encountered for the first time. This took a while for us to get used to and work around, but we were able to overcome our struggles!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Being able to code our first website in the span of a day.
  • Completing our pitch video greatly after having to practice multiple times.
  • Developing a way to reduce e-waste in local communities.
  • Creating bonds and connections with our team members.

What we learned

  • Teamwork Skills.
  • Coding a Website using HTML and CSS
  • Confidence in public speaking.
  • How to make a Logo!
  • Communication Skills.

What's next for eCycle

  • Establishing a name for ourselves
  • Enhancing our website
  • Expanding our outreach to various locations and countries
