Inspiration
We observed the many challenges faced by UT-Dallas freshmen entering the engineering field, many of whom felt overwhelmed transitioning into a stricter academic and social environment. We were inspired to create a comprehensive digital gateway to simplify their academic journey and connect them strongly with the campus ecosystem.
What it does
ECSConnect is a comprehensive digital gateway designed perfectly to assist UT-Dallas freshmen in engineering, simplifying their transition into the campus ecosystem. The platform boasts an array of innovative features that provide easy access to essential academic resources, including registration information, important faculty members' details, and a calender with all upcoming events. In addition, our website provides easy access to GitHub and VS Code, which are popularly used in the computer engineering department. Furthermore, ECSConnect is the ultimate resource for incoming engineering freshmen, providing them with all the tools and resources they need to excel in their academic journey.
How we built it
We started by watching online tutorials on React and collaborated with each other through Git. We then built a website template using YouTube and modified it to fit the criteria we created for our website. Finally, we personalized the website to enhance the user experience and implemented UTD spirit to make it more visually appealing.
Challenges we ran into
While developing our website, we encountered challenges collaborating on Visual Studios and setting up Git. After attempting several different lines of code and reaching out to a mentor for help, we successfully developed the website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Within a short period, we quickly grasped how to use React by watching online tutorials, enabling us to craft an efficient and seamless website.
What we learned
We learned React in a short period of time through online resources, such as youtube tutorials. Additionally, the introduction to React workshop served as a guide, allowing us to practice implementing React in small projects, solidifying our understanding, and improving our skills.
What's next for ECSConnect
We are committed to enhancing user experience through continuous improvements and updates, such as a degree plan that enables students to select their desired engineering major and access its corresponding degree plan. Additionally, including the integration of more pre-existing UTD features into ECSConnect, aiming to reach a wider audience and offer more convenient futures for our users
