Inspiration
As students, we wanted to contribute to United Nations vision of Sustainability by 2030 goal. We want to help individuals make sustainable decisions on their day to day activities and effectively foster a sustainable community at various geographical levels by leveraging state of the art technology thus motivating users to explore our application.
What it does
Our app will allow an user to make sustainable decisions on all their day to day activities. It will help them efficiently manage groceries, waste disposal and also help users to select optimal transportations in terms of sustainability by factoring carbon emissions. Our app also aims at fostering a sense of community by providing volunteering opportunities to sustainability enthusiasts!
How we built it
For the account creation and authentication purposes we have leveraged clerk for authentication and User Management.
Utilized Next.js integrating components from shadCN and Aceternity UI for creating highly responsive and Exquisite UI/UX.
We have trained a RAG set up Lang Chain agent with data across sustainable food items, air quality among different countries, grocery wise carbon footprint, and user information. Allowing to find the best food or place to travel.
Challenges we ran into
With only a day to build prototype, we had to quickly define what features were essential and what we could realistically accomplish. This pushed us to work efficiently, make quick decisions, and collaborate closely to prioritize tasks and allocate resources effectively.
We had incorporated various components which each required stand alone dependencies that needed various requirements. While collaborating, reproducing the environment took a considerable amount of time as individual components.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We’re proud to have created a solution that helps community to opt the best choices in daily life basis to make carbon reduction accessible for each individual.
- We’ve successfully built a platform that not only empowers individuals and businesses to reduce their carbon footprint but also provides a clear path to offsetting emissions, contributing to a healthier environment.
- As a team, we were able to successfully work in a collaborated environment across GitHub, and work on individual components using the tech stack that we are aware of and across other team mates interests.
- We have set up a website, a chat assistant powered by OpenAI (Generative Agent), with deployment on vercel for this project.
What we learned
We’ve strengthened our ability to collaborate across different skill sets and manage dependencies, ensuring that everyone’s expertise contributed to a helpful, unified solution.
We’ve gained valuable insights into the complexities of carbon emissions, which inspired us to enhance our app with additional resources to support users in making more sustainable, socially conscious choices.
What's next for EcoWolfie
We look forward to see individuals use this application to meet their everyday sustainability goals.
