Inspiration
My inspiration for EcoWise came from the growing concern over climate change and its impact on our planet. I wanted to empower individuals to understand their carbon footprint and motivate them to adopt more sustainable habits. By making carbon tracking accessible and engaging, I aim to foster a community of environmentally conscious users dedicated to making a positive impact.
What it does
EcoWise allows me to input my daily activities—such as transportation, energy consumption, and dietary choices—and calculates my carbon footprint. The app provides personalized insights and suggestions for reducing my impact, along with interactive visualizations that help me visualize my progress over time. With EcoWise, I can make informed decisions to live more sustainably.
How I built it
I built EcoWise using a combination of technologies:
- Frontend: HTML and CSS for a user-friendly interface, and JavaScript for interactive visualizations using libraries like Chart.js or D3.js.
- Backend: Python for data processing, including calculations for carbon emissions based on user inputs. I used Flask or Django to create a RESTful API that connects the frontend and backend.
- Database: SQLite or PostgreSQL for securely storing user data and activity logs.
Challenges I ran into
During development, I faced several challenges, including:
- Ensuring accurate calculations for various activities and their carbon emissions.
- Designing an intuitive user interface that is both informative and engaging.
- Handling user data securely while maintaining privacy.
Accomplishments I’m proud of
I am proud of creating a fully functional web app that not only calculates carbon footprints but also provides actionable insights. The interactive visualizations effectively communicate data in a user-friendly manner, making it easier for me to grasp my environmental impact. Additionally, I successfully implemented a responsive design that works well on both desktop and mobile devices.
What I learned

What's next for EcoWise
