Inspiration
The growing impact of climate change and the urgent need for sustainable practices inspired me to create EcoWalk. I wanted to empower individuals to make eco-friendly lifestyle choices by providing actionable insights that reduce their carbon footprint. Walking is one of the simplest ways to stay healthy while positively impacting the environment, and EcoWalk is here to make that process engaging and rewarding.
What it does
EcoWalk is a mobile app that gamifies sustainable travel. It tracks your walking activity, calculates the carbon emissions youβve saved compared to driving, and rewards you with points. EcoWalk also educates users with tips and stats about sustainability to keep them motivated on their journey to a greener lifestyle.
How we built it
I developed EcoWalk using a combination of technologies:
Frontend
- Flutter: For building a cross-platform mobile experience.
Backend
- Firebase: To store user walk history, leaf points, and progress data.
- Google Cloud Functions: Server-side logic and API integration.
APIs Used
- Mapbox SDK: For displaying the map.
- Google Places API: To identify nearby landmarks.
- OpenAI API: For generating environmental insights about landmarks.
What's next for EcoWalk
In the future, I plan to:
- Introduce features like group challenges and community goals to enhance user engagement.
- Develop an AI-powered recommendation engine to suggest optimal walking routes with the least environmental impact.
- Localize the app for global users.
- Launch a public beta and gather user feedback to refine the app further.
