Inspiration
We were concerned about the environmental crisis that is going on, and that's why we decided to go for a website that impacts the environment. We specifically went for eco-friendly alternatives to products because we wanted to help people see how they could change their habits and the products they use, because we know that a lot of our daily actions aren't eco-friendly.
What it does
Our website provides alternatives for daily products that we use. We have different categories such as clothing, shoes, masks, hygiene products, straws, makeup, and more. We also provide facts about the environment so that people can get motivated to make a change and make an impact on the environment.
How we built it
We built our website using HTML and CSS on replit.com.
Challenges we ran into
The alternatives page was pretty complicated to make, since there were a lot of pages involved. We ran into a few bugs while making multiple pages, and since we had to write a lot of relevant information, it was frustrating to keep writing. We had a little bit of difficulty with some new skills that we learned, for example, making an image clickable, but when we learned it, it wasn't that hard anymore. Along with this, we had a team issue on the first day because one of our team members decided to go solo with an idea that we all contributed to. That took away a lot of time from the making of our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're really proud of making a website that is fully functional after just about 14 hours of hard work. From all of those pages, we are really proud that we completed the alternatives page, considering that there were a lot of pages and typing involved with that page. Lastly, my partner and I are proud that we were able to work really well as a team and designate tasks and get the project done before the deadline.
What we learned
We learned that it's really important to be able to work well as a team. On the first day, after a teammate decided to go solo, we were really confused about what to do. Luckily, we brainstormed another idea quickly, and by splitting up tasks, we got the website done fast. We also learned about a few new coding skills, like embedding a google form and making images clickable.
What's next for EcoVille
There were so many more features we wanted to add to EcoVille, but we just didn't have enough time. Some of those features included a search bar to search up products and add them and eco-friendly alternatives if they weren't already there. We also wanted to manually add more products, but that would take up a lot of time. Another thing we wanted to do was to make our website cleaner by switching the location of the navigation bar and editing tiny details, but we didn't have enough time for that.
