Inspiration
My inspiration came from seeing people be involved with tracking apps that help them lose weight or remember to drink water every day. I thought of implementing this motivating tactic towards helping improve our environment.
What it does
Motivates people to do good things on a daily basis, log those actions, and get points! By scoring more points, the user unlocks rarer animals (to help spread awareness about endangered species).
How we built it
I built this step by step, starting from writing the bare code which asks for user input and creating scanners, then advancing to writing output to a file and more.
Challenges we ran into
I ran into some issues with printing output to a file and keeping it updated/not overwriting it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud that I was able to implement this idea so well, given that I am still a beginner.
What we learned
I learned many concepts from taking on this project! For example, I had learned how to avoid overwriting a file, how to change the pointer in a scanner, and other small things.
What's next for EcoTracker
This is a base idea that I want to further expand on. Due to lack of time on my part, I was unable to put in my full effort for the research aspect, so that will be the next step when I expand. For now, this project is just to demonstrate how we can motivate people to work on their habits so we can save our environment and endangered species!
