Inspiration
One of our team members shared a personal experience about her family not being able to skate on a lake as part of a family tradition because the lake didn’t freeze over due to global warming. This led us to realize how there is a very limited availability of information regarding specifics of climate change and how it affects our everyday lives. This paired with our drive to contribute to the well-being of our planet, led us to create this project.
What it does
For our users, it shows them their carbon emission of their cars based on car model and gas used. It collects this data into a database to aid other projects with similar goals.
How we built it
We first drew out our ideas as a flow chart, then we divided up tasks amongst ourselves and got our software figured out. We built it in VSCode with live collaboration and a gitHub repository to be able to work together on the same files. We used JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
Only 1 of our 3 programmers had prior knowledge with JavaScript, HTML, or CSS, so the other 2 had to learn from intuition.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created an app that runs smoothly, and created backend plans and plans for future growth to truly flesh out our ideas.
What we learned
We learnt a lot about how to code in JavaScript, CSS, and HTML. We learnt about JavaScript methods and how to transfer variables between different files for example.
What's next for EcoTracker
We hope to flesh-out new features described in our slideshow, furnish existing features, and expand our user base.
