🌱 Inspiration EcoTrack was inspired by the realization that climate action often feels abstract. People want to live sustainably but struggle to see how their daily choices matter. We wanted to build a tool that makes sustainability visible, measurable, and social — turning small eco‑friendly actions into collective impact.
🚀 What It Does EcoTrack lets users log eco‑friendly habits (like biking, recycling, or reducing electricity use), track their personal progress, and view a community dashboard showing neighborhood impact. Gamification features like points and badges make sustainability fun, while API integrations provide local climate context and recommendations.
🛠️ How We Built It Frontend: React Native (mobile) + React (web)
Backend: Node.js with Express
Database: MongoDB/Firebase
APIs: OpenWeather API for climate data
Design: Figma for UI/UX prototyping
Collaboration: GitHub for version control, Loom/Zoom for team syncs
We focused on building a working prototype first, then layered in gamification and dashboards.
⚡ Challenges We Ran Into Time pressure of a 48‑hour sprint
Syncing frontend and backend data in real time
API rate limits requiring caching strategies
Balancing clean UI with functional features
Coordinating across time zones and resolving GitHub conflicts
🏅 Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of Delivered a functional prototype in 48 hours
Built seamless integration across frontend, backend, and database
Implemented gamification features (badges, points, challenges)
Designed a clean, intuitive UI in Figma
Created a project that inspires collective climate action
📚 What We Learned Prioritize MVP features first in hackathons
Collaboration tools (GitHub, Loom) are essential under pressure
Handling API limits taught us adaptability
Design thinking improves usability and impact
Technology can amplify community power when paired with purpose
