Inspiration

Climate change is the biggest challenge of our generation, yet most people have no idea how their daily choices impact the environment. We wanted to make carbon footprint tracking as easy as taking a photo.

What it does

EcoTrack is an AI-powered carbon footprint tracker. Users can:

• Scan receipts and instantly see the carbon footprint of their purchases
• Track their emissions over time with interactive dashboards
• Join challenges like "Meatless Week" to reduce their impact
• Compare progress with other users on the leaderboard

How we built it

• Frontend: Next.js 14, React, TailwindCSS
• Charts: Chart.js for data visualization
• AI: OpenAI GPT-4 Vision for receipt analysis
• Deployment: Vercel

Challenges we ran into

• Accurately estimating carbon emissions for different products required extensive research into emission factors from EPA, Carbon Trust, and academic sources
• Handling various receipt formats and image quality for AI analysis
