Inspiration

Our project was inspired by the huge wastes that comes from the fashion industry yearly and our passion to work towards a more sustainable future. We were inspired by movements like gofundme and the organizations of protests on how many people gather together to make a change, and wanted to invoke similar communities to advocate for sustainability. We believe through continued support from the public, we can convince large fashion corporations to change their practices and shift towards a more environmental friendly standpoint.

What it does

Our app works to educate the average consumer the cons of current practices and the effects of using different types of fabric on our environment. We also included a simulation function where we emphasize the long-term affects of continuously proceeding with non sustainable practices and utilizing wasteful fast fashion materials. Lastly, we include personalized lists of what to do to make the planet a better place.

How we built it

We opted for the no code option and chose to work with glide to make our project a reality.

Challenges we ran into

Many of us didn’t have experience running glide so we struggled to get the hang of it at first. We also struggled implementing the simulator and had trouble deciding what type of simulator would be the best in gaining the consumer’s attention and motivating them to push for change.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of all the functions we’ve came up with and we think with all the functions all together, we and the public can advocate for hopefully permanent changes in the industry. We’re proud of the system we’ve come up with and figuring out how to utilized user input to provide more personalized feedback and future advice.

What we learned

We’ve learnt how to use glide and how to implement our ideas into reality even without code. We’ve learnt about the various effects of different fabrics on the environment and learnt which type of best in terms of water usage and waste contribution. Lastly, we’ve learnt how to work as a team and how collaborative effort can accomplish more than we ever hoped.

What's next for EcoThread

We hope to continue working to improve the simulation function. We’ve already published it on the App Store so we hope to actually make the app a feasible idea that can promote change. We hope to get more users and continue to make its functions more usable.
