Inspiration
How can we address the lack of knowledge regarding sustainable waste practices in an informative, engaging way?
We found the following statistic surprising and were inspired to create an engaging way for users to learn more information about how to best sort their waste.
“While 95% of Americans say they recycle (and only 25% of them recycle 'some of the time'), fewer than half know the basics of recycling”. According to the 2021 Consumer Recycling Habits survey by the Paper and Packaging Board (P+PB) for its sustainability initiative.
What it does
Our program is a cute, cartoony game that is designed to both keep younger players engaged and inform them about proper waste handling processes.
How we built it
We used JavaScript and HTML to create a browser based game. We used Illustrator to create all in game art and pair programed to create the game.
Challenges we ran into
Some of us were new to JavaScript and we were learning as we went.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We worked really well together, and constantly discussed our scope and goals. We frequently pair programmed and heavily communicated with one another. We are proud to have a completed working prototype.
What we learned
We have developed upon our teamwork skills and have strengthened our knowledge with JS and HTML.
What's next for EcoSort
We have a various group of features that given the time we would love to implement. We hoped to expand it to an entire group of sustainability related video games.
