Inspiration
EcoSort VR was inspired by the need to make environmental education engaging through immersive technology, while strictly adhering to the Meta VR Start requirements for lightweight, seated, and accessible WebXR experiences.
What it does
EcoSort VR is a spatial waste-sorting game designed for seated Meta VR users. Players must quickly sort various items into their correct containers (Organic, Recyclable, or Hazardous) using intuitive hand-tracking interactions within a strict time limit.
How we built it
- Developed using pure HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript powered by Three.js for 3D rendering.
- Integrated WebXR APIs to support full hand-tracking gestures alongside touch/mouse fallbacks.
- Deployed seamlessly via GitHub Pages for instant, frictionless accessibility.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing lightweight performance with immersive 3D graphics while ensuring smooth compatibility across both VR browsers and standard screen views.
What we learned
Building lightweight WebXR applications allows for rapid iteration and wide accessibility without complex mobile development setups.
