🧩 About the Project – EcoSort 💡 Inspiration
Waste pollution in Telangana is growing rapidly — especially plastic waste, which is difficult to recycle when mixed with other waste. Seeing overflowing bins, unmanaged garbage in public areas, and increased landfill usage inspired us to create a smart solution that helps both citizens and government.
We strongly believe:
Technology + Awareness = Clean Telangana
That’s how EcoSort was born.
🎯 What EcoSort Does
EcoSort is a smart waste management app designed to:
Help people identify and sort their waste correctly
Remind them to hand over dry waste on pickup days
Reward eco-friendly actions with EcoPoints
Connect households directly to recyclers & dry waste centers
Track environmental contribution like waste diverted & CO₂ saved
It transforms waste from pollution → profit 💰♻️
🛠️ How We Built It
Core components:
Module Technology / Concept AI Waste Scanner Image classification (ML model + camera input) Pickup Scheduler Notification system & GPS-based ULB routing Recycling Map API for mapping centers and scrap dealers Eco Points Wallet Points + reward redemption logic Impact Dashboard Data visualization for eco-metrics Community Engagement Leaderboards, clean-up events
📚 What We Learned
Real-world waste management challenges in Telangana
Importance of source segregation for recycling success
Integrating IoT and AI for civic applications
How incentives influence human behavior
Business models in circular economy ♻️
We also learned to collaborate with waste workers and recyclers to understand ground challenges.
🚧 Challenges We Faced Challenge How We Solved It Training ML model to detect waste categories Created dataset with multiple plastic/organic/general waste images Lack of public awareness Introduced reward system + tutorials inside the app Handling mixed waste Encouraging segregation at home using simple 3-bin UI Government collaboration barriers Designed scalable & compliant solution UI for all age groups Built clean, icon-based interface 🧮 Environmental Impact (Goal)
Waste diverted from landfill per month:
Diverted Waste
Recyclable Fraction × Total Waste Diverted Waste=Recyclable Fraction×Total Waste
Example: For 675 tons/month of recyclable dry waste:
675 , 000 kg ×
0.7
472 , 500 kg recycled 675,000 kg×0.7=472,500 kg recycled
Huge potential impact across Telangana 🌍✨
🚀 Vision Ahead
Full Telangana deployment through ULB partnerships
Add smart bins with real-time fill tracking
Enable carbon credits for recycling actions
Expand to PAN-India growth
We want every person to feel:
“I cleaned my city today — and got rewarded for it.”
