Inspiration
Every year, millions of animals are killed due to waste mismanagement, with hundreds of tons of plastic ending in the ocean every day. EcoSort aims to prevent this by ensuring that users are easily able to identify different types of waste, saving recources and leading to more sustainable living for Earth's future.
How we built it
We trained an image classification model and created an app in Swift that scans trash and sorts it into paper, plastic, metal, glass, batteries, and biological waste. We also gathered coordinates for high rating disposal facilites around the Bay Area and imported it into a map in swiftUI, allowing people easy access to various areas to remove their waste. Using this, trash can be effectively and efficiently sorted, allowing for a worldwide increase in recycling and a decrease in waste mismanagement.
