Inspiration
EcoSnap was created to raise awareness about the importance of reducing carbon footprint and to help individuals understand their personal impact on the environment. The goal is to provide a simple and interactive tool that allows users to easily calculate and understand their carbon footprint, and to make informed decisions about how to reduce it. The hope is that EcoSnap will empower individuals to take action and contribute to the global effort to mitigate the effects of climate change.
What it does
EcoSnap is for individuals who are interested in understanding their carbon footprint and taking steps to reduce it. It is also useful for educators and organizations who are looking to raise awareness about environmental sustainability. EcoSnap is designed to be accessible to a wide range of users, regardless of their prior knowledge of the subject.
How we built it
We built it using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
We are first year computer science students. The only languages we knew prior to the hackathon was Java. We challenged ourselves to use other languages (JavaScript, HTML, and CSS) to expand our coding experience. Another challenge was data visualization. Our initial aim was to include a data visualization component, however, we ended up running out of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we didn't give up despite feeling lost and confused throughout the project.
What we learned
We learned a lot about version control tools, specifically pulling, pushing, merging, and branching in GitHub. We also learned more front-end development.
What's next for EcoSnap
After this hackathon is over, we plan to continue working on our project and eventually accomplish our original goal of having a data visualization component.
