Inspiration

I was inspired by the everyday confusion I see around recycling and people not knowing how to properly dispose of waste. With growing conversations around the climate crisis, I wanted to create something that empowers people to make informed choices that can have a large collective impact.

What it does

EcoSnap is a concept for a mobile app that helps users figure out how to correctly dispose of everyday items using AI-powered image recognition, local regulation rules, and gamified education. The app includes a searchable eco-library and a map of nearby recycling or drop-off centers.

How I built it

  1. Start with the problem: I reflected on common frustrations with recycling and researched how local guidelines vary.

  2. Brainstorm: I brainstormed features that could make recycling more accessible and fun, like Green Points.

  3. Prototype: I designed the interface and created mockup screens to visualize the app’s layout.

What's next for EcoSnap

  1. Build a basic prototype using Flutter or React Native.

  2. Explore AI tools like Google Vision or other APIs for waste recognition.

  3. Partner with local recycling programs for accurate data.
