Inspiration
Deforestation and climate change are calls to action, but most have no direct way of viewing their impact or being able to significantly contribute to conservation efforts. AI-based solutions need to make environmental consciousness democratic in its reach.
What it does
EcoSense AI converts every smartphone into a powerful environmental sensor. Users can identify sea creatures, monitor vulnerable species, quantify forest health, calculate carbon footprints, and get personalized sustainability guidance - using smart photo analysis and real-time processing.
How we built it
Built with React 18 and TypeScript, fueled by Google Gemini AI and Cloud Vision APIs. The system blends computer vision for species identification, machine learning for habitat scanning, and real-time data fusion for climate tracking. Ocean scanners, wildlife trackers, carbon calculators, and eco-living assistants are just a few of the features.
Challenges we faced
Integrating multiple AI models without compromising real-time processing, accurate species identification in diverse ecosystems, and creating an intuitive interface that converts complex environmental information into plain language for everyone.
Accomplishments we're proud of
Created an entire platform making environmental science universal, attained accurate AI-driven species identification, and designed products that truly help reduce users' environmental impact based on data-driven insights.
What we learned
Environmental AI is a balancing act of technical complexity and user-friendliness. We discovered the promise of integrating multiple AI models and the significance of real-time data in creating effective environmental intelligence.
What's next for EcoSense AI
Scaling up satellite image analysis, setting up community-led conservation programs, developing a mobile app companion, adding offline mode for fieldwork, and integrating sophisticated ML models for even more accurate species identification.
