We started EcoScore after noticing something that kept happening around us: even when people want to be more eco friendly, it is hard to follow through every day. Small choices like what you eat, how you get around, how long you use the A/C, or whether you use disposable plastics happen fast, and the impact is easy to ignore. We wanted to create something that makes those choices feel more real in the moment, without being guilt based. EcoScore is built around one message: small actions, big change.
We designed EcoScore to be quick and practical, starting with a simple “Log your day” flow. Users check off actions across four areas: Food (vegetarian meal, local/seasonal food, saving leftovers, or meat), Transport (walk/bike, public transit, carpool, or car alone), Energy (turning off unused lights, short shower, charging devices efficiently, plus A/C usage by hours), and Waste (recycling, using a reusable bottle or bag, or using disposable plastics). Each action adds or subtracts points, so the app turns everyday habits into a daily score users can actually see.
While building EcoScore, we learned that motivation comes from clear feedback and small wins. The biggest challenge was choosing actions and point values that feel fair and understandable, especially because everyone’s routine is different. We focused on keeping the log simple, the choices relatable, and the experience positive, so users can build consistency over time and feel proud when they make even a few better choices in a day.
