Ecosavvy

Inspiration

The inspiration for Ecosavvy emerged from a deep concern about the environmental impact of everyday actions. Witnessing the growing global awareness of sustainability and the lack of accessible tools for individuals to assess their contributions to carbon emissions sparked the idea for this project.

What it does

Ecosavvy is a user-friendly carbon footprint calculator designed to help individuals understand their environmental impact. It allows users to input data regarding their lifestyle choices, including transportation, energy consumption, and dietary habits. The calculator then analyzes this data to provide users with a comprehensive assessment of their carbon footprint.

How we built it

As a solo project, I developed Ecosavvy using React JS and Climatiq API. To ensure accuracy, I integrated APIs that provide real-time information on emissions and carbon equivalencies.

Challenges we ran into

Developing Ecosavvy presented various challenges. Sourcing reliable and updated data for accurate calculations was a significant hurdle. Additionally, simplifying complex environmental data into an easily understandable format for users required meticulous design and development.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I take pride in creating a functional and accessible tool that individuals can use to understand their environmental impact. Developing an intuitive user interface that simplifies complex data for users to comprehend their carbon footprint is a significant achievement for this project.

What I learned

This solo project provided invaluable learning experiences. It deepened my understanding of environmental sustainability, data accuracy, and user interface design. It also highlighted the importance of data integrity in creating impactful solutions.

What's next for Ecosavvy

Looking ahead, I plan to refine and improve Ecosavvy by continuously updating data sources and enhancing its accuracy. I aim to explore partnerships with environmental organizations to reach a wider audience and possibly expand the tool’s functionality to offer tailored suggestions for reducing carbon footprints.
