EcoRide was inspired by the need to reduce transportation-related emissions while strengthening communities through sustainable commuting. It aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goals 11, 13, and 15, by turning everyday travel into climate action.

EcoRide is an AI-powered carpool app that matches users based on routes, schedules, and preferences while tracking CO₂ savings and supporting tree-planting initiatives. It also integrates safety features, gamification, air quality data, and public transit connections to promote cleaner, smarter transportation.

We built EcoRide using AI route optimization, geolocation clustering, and preference-based matching to create efficient carpools. The platform combines secure verification systems, GPS tracking, and emissions calculations to deliver both safety and measurable environmental impact.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was building user trust through strong safety and verification systems. We also had to carefully balance accurate emissions tracking and efficient ride matching without making the app overly complex.

We successfully created a scalable AI matching system that connects commuters while reducing emissions. We are also proud of integrating real-time eco-impact tracking and linking carpooling directly to ecosystem restoration efforts.

We learned that sustainability solutions must be convenient and community-driven to succeed. Trust, simplicity, and local partnerships are just as important as advanced technology.

Next, we plan to launch a local pilot program, refine our AI with real user data, and expand partnerships for tree planting and transit integration. Our long-term goal is to scale EcoRide to more cities and maximize its environmental impact.
