Inspiration

The inspiration for this project was the very real restoration of Yellowstone national park after it had suffer and out of control fire that had destroyed much of the forest. It is also inspired by the reintroduction of the gray wolf into Yellowstone to restart the trophic balance of the Yellowstone ecosystem.

What it does

This is game where you can move with wasd or the arrow keys. There you can buy flora, fauna, and water to help revitalize Yellowstone in the shop, and then selecting them from the menu and placing it down. You can then monitor the health of the ecosystem & receive money based on how well you have done!

How we built it

We built it using the Godot game engine and many free assets from Clint Bellanger and more. We learned through video tutorials, docs, and ai assistants.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we ran into was the messiness of our code both created by our own inexperience and gemeni's inability to keep code straight. We also had some problems with git as we were unclear what files are supposed to be used for.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we made a finished product while learning a completely new game engine at the same time (and the few differences that come with using gdscript).

What we learned

We learned how to work and program in godot and we all got more experience with using traditional games engines. We also learned a little more about git.

What's next for EcoRestore

For EcoRestore, first creating a more unified art style is first, but afterwards, we would add new features to make the game a more fleshed out experience. For example, we could implement weather patterns, seasons impacting flora and fauna growth, other types of flora besides grasses, perhaps even genetic mutations to alter certain aspects of animals (eg. making them faster, consuming less flora for more energy, hunger resistance).
