Inspiration
Australian Laws implemented single-use plastic ban for “Zero Waste” and reduction of plastic pollution Rise of eco-friendly bags in large supermarket chains since 2018, like Coles and Woolworths However, some eco-friendly bags aren’t considered environmentally friendly, especially if not reused enough (E.g. UN Climate Report - 50 - 150 times reuse of cotton bags to have less impact on climate than single-use plastics) Varied numbers online about how many people reuse on average from 3 to 15. Thus, further research is needed to investigate the usage of eco-friendly bags and possible pain points surrounding reusing bags.
What it does
How we built it
We found that some eco-friendly bags aren’t considered environmentally friendly, especially if not reused enough.
Challenges we ran into
We investigated the possibility of turning food waste into bioplastic, which is how the concept of using food waste from grocery stores and homes was born. Feedback from mentor: too focused on business and household area
