About the Project
EcoReceipt is a simple dashboard that turns shopping lists into environmental impact scores. It was built to help people see the hidden environmental cost of everyday purchases.
Inspiration
The idea came from noticing that most shopping decisions have no feedback loop for sustainability. I wanted something that makes impact visible in a fast and simple way.
How it was built
Built as a lightweight web app that:
- Takes a list of items
- Assigns impact values for carbon, plastic, water, and energy
- Calculates a total score from 0 to 100
- Shows breakdown per item
What I learned
How important it is to simplify complex data into something users can understand quickly.
Challenges
- Balancing accuracy vs simplicity in the scoring system
- Keeping the UI clean while still showing useful detail
