Inspiration
The inspiration is to create a user-friendly app that helps build healthy habits to keep the earth more clean. When we saw the requirements of Code Green we thought in our head that we can do something with environmental, and just to make it more fun for people we decided to make it somewhat like a game system so that they can feel a sense of accomplishment when they recycle any sort of waste.
What it does
The main idea of the app is to keep track of the amount of waste that the user recycle through out the whole week/day, while doing so it gives daily summary and weekly summary on how much it impacted the earth
How we built it
Frontend: We incoporated a friend, claudeAI, to help with the front end. Since were both mostly focused on backend, since we are short on 2 team members who are more experienced with frontend, but we were willing to learn what our code does and then we made simple changes like switching out parts of the code that we felt was unnecessary. Backend: We used Node.js to connect to a MongoDB database, and then initialized CRUD operations with the node.js.
Challenges we ran into
Since we lost two key members, time was a major setback because trying to implement the frontend and understanding how to compile HTML took a little longer than usual. Also being our first hackathon, we had to figure out how to balance the time between coding, going to workshops, and building connections.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Not being afraid to use AI and leveraging it to asssist us
- Understanding the parts of HTML on the frontend
- Proper documentation of the project
What we learned
We learned how to implement HTML on a live server and then how to prompt AI to help with our creativity. We learned more on our teamwork dynamics as a 2 person group instead of 4, and how to distribute the workload, and also learned good programming practices.
What's next for EcoQuest
LAUNCH IT GLOBALLY, but before doing so, we want to add more implementations such as allowing user to scan waste and get details of the item, which can automatically choose the category for example; user scans a plastic water bottle, it automatically chooses the category as plastic and then adds a weight. We also plan to make it available on the mobile appstore not just on a webserver, and then incorpoate other features like widgets that shows the track
