Inspiration
Upon hearing "The Healthier Future", our team immediately began brainstorming ideas surrounding food, mental health, and the environment. After some thought, we decided on a making an app related to improving the future health of the environment. We were inspired by management games in which the user is tasked with taking care of certain responsibilities within the app. We figured this would be a great way to motivate people to practice sustainable habits everyday. In addition, we wanted to add an emotional element to the app to motivate users even further. We did this by creating a little Earth mascot that the user would be able to interact with in the app. Completing tasks would improve the status of the interactive Earth, making the user feel a sense of responsibility. Our earth mascot was inspired by the rubber hose animation style. Our main goal was to create an app that helps and encourages users to implement sustainable practices into their daily lives with the hope of building habits.
What it does
EcoQuest has four main pages. The first main page is the home page, here a user can view their daily tasks. Users gain points by completing a sustainability task. If a user inputs their location, they can view local eco-friendly events. In addition there is a sustainability tips section will provides information on how users can incorporate eco-friendly habits into their everyday life. The second main page is the My Earth page, here users can view their very own little Earth and see the status of their Earth. In addition, users can choose to interact with their Earth by hydrating it, nurturing it, accessorizing it, or energizing it. Users can unlock interactive elements by using points they have earned from completing sustainable tasks. The Earth's visual appearance will change based on the user's activity. The third main page is the leaderboard, here users can toggle between the local and the global leaderboard. This feature is meant to encourage users to complete tasks through friendly competition and incentives. The fourth and last main page is the profile page, here a user can edit and view their profile. In addition, they can view their stats of the week, as well as their stats from all time. Users can also earn achievements for completing certain tasks. These achievements can be viewed on their profile. Lastly, users can add friends and view community profiles to connect with others around the globe. The more that a user interacts with the app, the more they will build sustainable habits that end up making an amazing impact on Earth.
How we built it
We created our app using Figma, ProCreate, After Effects, and Premiere Pro. We started by defining our brand name and overall aesthetic. We then established a design system to ensure that our design and prototype process would be as efficient as possible. We then decided on our design requirements and app features. Lastly, created our wireframes and got to prototyping.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges we ran into was trying to make our app as unique as possible, while still meeting achieving the goals we had set for app. Ultimately, we resolved this issue by coming up with our little Earth mascot, which added a unique emotional element to our design. Another challenge we ran into were some issues with prototyping because of the time constraint, but we were able to overcome it in the end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are so proud of our little Earth and its idle animation. We are also proud of our splash screen feature at the beginning of our prototype. In addition, we are proud of ourselves for being able to design and develop this project in such a short time period. And lastly, we are proud of the entire project as a whole!
What we learned
We learned a lot about time management, collaboration, and effectiveness.
What's next for EcoQuest
We can't wait to share our project with the world!
