Inspiration

Over-watering and inefficient irrigation lead to massive water wastage and damaged crop yields worldwide. EcoAqua IoT was created to provide a simple, automated solution that monitors soil conditions in real time and triggers irrigation only when necessary.

What it does

EcoAqua IoT continuously measures soil moisture metrics. When moisture drops below a set operational threshold, the embedded controller automatically activates the irrigation subsystem and logs status telemetry to prevent over-saturation.

How we built it

  • Hardware Architecture: Modeled an Arduino-based circuit interfaced with soil telemetry sensors and automated relay indicators.
  • Simulation & Testing: Developed and validated circuit logic and signal processing using Wokwi virtual instrument tooling.
  • Embedded Control Logic: Programmed in C++ to read analog sensor data, convert raw signals to readable percentages, and execute automated threshold checks.

Challenges we ran into

Filtering signal noise and selecting an accurate threshold value to prevent constant micro-triggering of the irrigation pump during sensor fluctuations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully engineered a working end-to-end prototype combining simulated hardware telemetry, automated control logic, and console status reporting under a tight deadline.

What we learned

Gained deeper insight into embedded control systems, analog sensor calibration, and hardware-software integration loops.

What's next for EcoAqua IoT

  • Implementing Wi-Fi telemetry using ESP32 to stream updates directly to a cloud dashboard.
  • Integrating multi-sensor correlation for ambient temperature and humidity.
