📦 What it does

EcoPrint AI is a carbon footprint tracker that estimates the environmental impact of AI prompt usage — starting with text-based prompts. It helps users see how much CO₂ is generated behind the scenes when interacting with large language models. The tool allows users to select an AI model, input token usage, and get real-time footprint estimates in grams or kilograms of CO₂e. It’s designed for developers, creators, and everyday users who care about responsible tech.

🛠 How we built it

I built the MVP solo using: • Bolt.new for front-end UI generation and page hosting • React (inside Bolt) to build the Carbon Calculator • Git + GitHub for version control and project management • Netlify for domain and live deployment at ecoprintai.net • Stripe + RevenueCat for setting up subscription functionality (still being finalized) • Visual Studio Code for local testing, error debugging, and structure

I also created all branding, wrote the site copy, and built the project from scratch while learning every step in real time.

⚔️ Challenges we ran into • Payment integration issues: RevenueCat and Stripe caused major friction close to the submission deadline • Preview breaking in Bolt during live testing due to package conflicts • Navigating unfamiliar tools like Git, Supabase, and Browser Extension design • Working as a solo dev with limited time and no budget • Balancing parenting, school, and this build while teaching myself everything on the fly • Had to troubleshoot live deployment issues with barely 30 minutes left before the deadline

🏆 Accomplishments that we’re proud of • Built a fully functional, branded MVP that’s live on the web • Learned and applied real-world skills in Git, React, and API integration • Designed a clean, accessible UI using Bolt • Created an original, mission-driven solution that tackles AI sustainability • Made EcoPrint AI feel like the start of a real product, not just a hackathon demo
